Joseph is a proud Gamilaroi man living on the Mid North Coast of NSW, with extensive connections in the Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Armidale regions.
Joseph is the Executive General Manager – Indigenous Services at Growing Potential and within his role, Joseph oversees the Windaan Aboriginal Services portfolio. This role involves working collaboratively with foundational key partners to develop cross sector models of service that recognise and reflect the individual and cultural needs of Aboriginal people. It also includes management and oversight of the Windaan Social Enterprise Development and Windaan Business Consultancy divisions.
Joseph has spent the last eight years working in the disability sector, with five years spent working for Australia’s disability peak National Disability Services (NDS) as Aboriginal Regional Coordinator establishing employment and service pathways for Aboriginal people in the disability sector. With extensive sector experience as well as service provision experience, Joseph has developed a first-hand knowledge of the challenges of delivering quality disability services to Aboriginal families and communities.
Joseph’s passion remains the empowerment of Aboriginal communities through the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). However, Joseph acknowledges that this is a challenge that requires collaboration with a broad range of partner organisations. This need to build real cultural capacity in the NDIS disability sector is the passion that drives the Windaan Business Consultancy Division.
When Joseph isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three young daughters. Joseph is also passionate about passing on Aboriginal traditions and culture to young Aboriginal people. In particular, he loves teaching Aboriginal dance to young people. Aside from traditional dancing, Joseph also likes playing rugby league, touch football and going to the beach.
